TRAUMA THERAPISTS IN DETROIT, MI

Whatever you’ve been through, you deserve a therapist who gets it and a clear path forward.

If you’ve already tried journaling, coping skills, talk therapy, medication, or any and all of the other shit that was supposed to make you feel better… and you still feel stuck and overwhelmed?

That’s trauma.

You’re probably familiar with the word “trauma” if you’ve lived through something like an accident, abuse, or violence. But what a lot of people don’t realize is that trauma can take many forms. If you grew up in an unpredictable home or learned in relationships that other people’s emotions were your responsibility, that’s trauma, too.

Those experiences teach our brains and bodies that the world is not safe and we need to be on guard. To cope with existing in survival mode, we reach for whatever gives us some relief. Maybe you tend to lose yourself in relationships, substances, or the latest self-help book everyone’s talking about—even though you know it won’t really fix your problems. Knowing the pattern you’re in and still feeling unable to get out of it is a special kind of torture.

The good news is, it can get better.

HOW WE WORK

With specialized trauma therapy, we can help you heal the root of what’s keeping you stuck and create lasting changes you actually notice and feel.

When it comes to trauma, talk therapy can feel like a cup of tea when you’re sick: it’s cozy and feels nice to have, but not directly effective at treating what’s really going on. Specialized trauma therapy is more like an antibiotic: it may feel a little weird at times—not bad, but not necessarily enjoyable—but it reaches the root of the issue and helps you actually start to feel better (more than a hundred cups of tea could).

The evidence-based methods we use help you feel better in ways you’ll be able to observe: caring for yourself gets easier, you feel less overwhelmed by everyday tasks, and you’ll have more space for work, relationships that fulfill you, and the life you actually want to live.

WE BELIEVE GOOD THERAPY STARTS WITH THE RIGHT PERSON SITTING ACROSS FROM YOU.

WE BELIEVE IN THERAPY THAT IS…

Honest & human.

This is a place where you can tell the truth about what’s going on without worrying about being judged, misunderstood, or talked down to. You don’t have to show up polished, perfectly self-aware, or with all the right words. We’re real people doing real work with you, and there’s room for your humanness here, too. Being in a space with someone who can handle and accept all of you as you are can be healing in and of itself, and we want to create that space for you.

Supportive from beginning to end.

Doing the work in therapy is enough effort on its own—we don’t want you to have to worry about logistics as well. We work to make the process feel clear and simple from the first step on: scheduling, paperwork, billing, and whatever else comes up along the way. We want you to feel informed, supported, and never left guessing about what comes next.

Actually useful to you.

When your stress levels are on 10,000, being told to drink some water or take a walk usually doesn’t land as helpful. We don’t believe in throwing generic advice, random coping skills, or therapist-speak at you and hoping something sticks. We want the work we do in therapy to apply directly to your actual life, which means paying attention to what you’ve already tried, what works for you, what will help you feel more grounded right now, and what systems we can create to maintain that groundedness.

Inclusive of all identities & stories.

Trauma doesn’t look one particular way, and neither do the people who live through it. We welcome clients of all races, genders, sexualities, identities, and backgrounds, and we work with all kinds of trauma. Here, you don’t have to edit or translate yourself to get the help you need. We have a diverse team with different specialties and perspectives, and we take the time to help you find a therapist who aligns with what you’re looking for. We always welcome your feedback, and if the right-fit therapist is not here, we will help you find them elsewhere.

Come as you are–

we’re here for you.

METHODS WE USE

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the most effective, evidence-backed trauma treatments available. It helps your brain reprocess the memories and beliefs driving your struggles so you can heal and actually feel the weight lift off your shoulders.

Trauma-Informed CBT

This method helps you understand how trauma has shaped the way you think, and over time, change the unconscious patterns that have been running your life.

Somatic Work

Trauma lives in the body as much as the mind. Somatic—or body-based—approaches help you reconnect with your physical experience and release what's been stored there.

Inner Child Work

Many of the patterns you're struggling with today were formed by a younger version of you who was doing their best to survive. We help you connect with and heal that part of yourself.

IFS & Parts Work

Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps you open a dialogue with the conflicting inner parts of yourself, understand what they’ve been trying to protect you from, and bring them into balance.

DBT & Skills-Based Approaches

For clients who need concrete tools for managing intense emotions, relationships, and day-to-day life, we draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other skills-based approaches.

Motivational Interviewing

Change is hard, and having contradicting feelings about it is normal. Motivational Interviewing meets you where you are and helps you find your own reasons to move forward.

YOU’RE NOT ALONE IN THIS ANYMORE.

Let’s work toward a life that feels like yours.
